Applied Principles and Fundamentals
of Operation for Gas Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors

Day 1

  • Introduction to gas compression equipment and processes
    Gas turbine components, including compressor, combustor, gas producer, power turbine, bearings, air inlets, and ducting
  • Review of electrical, starting, oil and air systems
    Detailed discussion of controls such as T5 or T7
  • Identify differences between Mars©, Taurus©, Saturn© and Centuar© models
  • Diffusion flame and dry low NOx combustors, rapid acceleration and deceleration, and emission formation characteristics

Day 2

  • Gas compressor components including impeller, casing and basic peripheral devices, including component construction, operation, and basic failure modes
  • Series/parallel and single/multistage operation
  • Seal gas or seal oil system operation, components, and maintenance
  • Surge control and recycle valve operation and maintenance
  • Vibration monitoring system
  • Gas turbine operating limits, ambient temperature effects, filter and exhaust

Day 3

  • Support system operation and maintenance to include: auxiliary pumps, heaters, fans, air filters, and oil cooling systems
  • Basic unit start/stop sequence
  • Resetting and restarting of auxiliary equipment and main unit equipment after an abnormal shutdown
  • Key elements of the daily log and basic inspections
  • Review and test
